What is Usability ?

Usability is a term used for making softwares, applications more usable to the end user.
Usability in itself is a very vast subject. Here we will try to give a brief idea of what usability is all about.

Attributes of Usability

There are three basic attributes of Usability :-
Learnability : How easy is your user interface to learn and to get used to it.So that your traning as well as support cost is less.
Productivity : How easy is your user interface to use, to remember so that work can be carried out at a faster pace thereby increasing the productivity not only for the vendors of the softare but also the buyers.
Error-Free Interaction : The Less Error-Free Interaction you have with the software the less time it takes to get the work done.Which increases your productivity.

Things that impacts Usability

Interaction Design : Interaction Design means how your user interacts with the User Interface. How he uses your application to get the work done.
Information Design : Information Design means the Content Matter which is there on your User Interface. The Labels, Messages and the Usability Assistance (manuals and online help) are the examples of it.
Visual Design : Visual Design means the Layout, colours, fonts used, images and icons.
